New Orleans... deep within the bayou

"Bring her to me," Elder Vlad said through his fangs, his voice slicing the still ness of the night with a hissing whisper.

Vampire sentries vaporized into a dark mist, moving switftly and silently between the trees. The ancient leader of the Vampire Cartel narrowed his gaze as we inhaled deeply, then vanished, only to reappear at the far side of the chase. Quickly moving orbs of darness had an invisible qualrry on the run. Branches snapped, underbrush crackled, but Elder Vlad remained steadfast and patient, watching them drive his prey directly to him. She would rie soon; she was no immortal... just very, very old and strong.

Description from the amazon:
The last fight between the werewolf clans spilled onto the streets of New Orleans—and now the whole city’s on red alert. Martial law has gone into effect. Mediums, ghost hunters, and other supernatural pundits have taken over the media, swarming the Big Easy to expose the hard truth about lycanthropes. And to make matters worse, a beastly killer is clawing up humans…

Secret government operative Sasha Trudeau doesn’t like what she’s seeing—a series of brutal and bloody slayings that appear to be wolf-like attacks. It might be the work of a copy cat killer—vampire or Unseelie or some other enemy of the Seelie clan. But while Sasha races to find suspects and motives, the panic level is rising—and the city’s human population is clamoring for an all-out wolf hunt…

My two-bits:
In-a-word(s): Hoo-rah

I dove into this series without reading the first book. So, the established characters and their backgrounds were ever so slightly referred to. I have mixed feelings because of this. And because there was a such a mix of werewolves, vampires, witches, fae and U.S. military. Throw in conflict amongst all parties with a mystery and you get... a story that leaves you wondering. Mostly I wonder what is the history?

I got a hint of the werewolf background - involving a petri dish??? and there are possibly a Native American Indian connection?

As a stand-a-lone book it works alright if you're into action between the different parties mentioned.

Also, I think if you are already a fan of the series, you will enjoy the continuation of the storyline and like how the characters evolve. Those into the romance side of things will be pleased too.

There be gnomes here.
Gnomes?
Yes, gnomes and I don't think they looked like these guys.

I am reminded by Mary Ann's comment - the human characters involved in this story are varied in their ethnicity - so you get the people of color mix too. i liked that.
